DESIGN WITHOUT AN EXPIRY DATE – MADE BY DURAVIT
Starck 1 - classic Duravit range and pioneer of sustainable bathroom design
Speaking about sustainable products is more than considering high functionality or the use of environmentally-friendly materials. Design is also an important element defining the long-term appeal of a creation.
Starck 1 offers both design-orientated elegance and warm comfort.
Who wants design with an expiry date – especially when it comes to creating a room so important for the quality of life like a bath? For Duravit the development of bath and well-being products with timelessly modern forms has always been of a high significance. To achieve this, we have been collaborating with internationally well-known designers, for many years.
Philippe Starck is an outstanding example. He, as one of today’s most celebrated icons of design, has left his unique mark on Duravit products several times. Amongst other things, Philippe Starck is the creator of four Duravit collections and also designed the innovative shower-toilet SensoWash®.
Starck 1, for instance, is a strong statement of sustainable design. Philippe Starck’s first creation for Duravit, introduced in 1994, owes its fascinating appearance to its return to archetypical forms. All elements of this series, like wash-basins, toilets, bidets and bathtubs, are inspired by primal forms such as the bucket, tub and washbowl.
The "Starck barrel" has been of the most successful individual furniture items for years.
Especially one item stands out: it is the so called “Starckbarrel”. During the last twenty years, this conical vanity unit has become oneof Duravit’s most successful individual furniture items. This timelessly modern piece of furniture is synonymous for the harmony of form, appealing surface design and function – or as we would say for “sustainable product design – made by Duravit”.
